Les Moments de l'Instant

1991 - 1992

Over the trip I made in December 1987 to Nepal, the camera had first recorded the movements of the eye over the subject. It fragmented the moment into a kaleidoscopic vision of the space. The collage had re-unified the pieces of memories and made it whole again, the brush then came to smooth the edges of the time-frame. The question now, was how to present the final stage of this time-space dialogue.

After much experimenting, I developed a technique where laser copies were glued onto plywood and varnished with the same acrylic base. The image was then assembled again, but extended in space with depth and angles that re-enacts the effects of the photographic lens. This process proved rather costly, but I was lucky to be granted with a budget from the Mayor of my hometown, Gardanne, France, to produce new works when my initial intention was to apply for a space to hold the first version of this exhibition.

Intuitive in recording and done on site, unique in nature and quantity

Photo Collage

Making use of laser copying, which had the advantage of reproduction via light, as with photography, and by virtue of photographic reproduction, this medium can exist in multiples

Oil Paint on Photos

The result of turning the image into a volume, the photograph into a sculpture, somewhere between photography and painting, between the unique and the multiple; we have a unique reproduction

I AM MA.
As simple as that.
And I work on the space between things.
