In 2001, the news came that a Singaporean version of the prestigious Parisian Mois de la Photographie was to be organised the following year. I then thought of using my series of lamp-post photographs, started in my school days, with the shot of a lamp-post lighted in bright daylight in Amsterdam. Over the next twenty five years, this paradoxical sight repeated itself many times, and the isolated shot grew into a series of over a hundred lamp-posts from around the world, expanding the original theme, exploring the contrast between natural and artificial light.
